Go bananas

Why did two senior business majors dress up like a gorilla and a banana and run rampant across UD’s campus on Halloween?

“To make people laugh,” said Mike “Monkey Mike” Oradini. “We talked about it last year,” said Matt Antenucci, the banana of the operation. “It was just a stupid thing to do senior year; we thought it was funny.”

The duo planned their route the night before, taking into consideration the most popular areas of campus. They made four runs throughout the day, between class changes for maximum audience potential. Three friends were stationed on the route to record the video, all of which was done on cell phones. The final product was put together using Adobe Premiere and is posted on YouTube.

“When we initially took off we were pumped, but by the end we were exhausted,” said Antenucci about the runs. The reactions of the crowd were worth it, though. People were laughing, clapping, stopping to take pictures and posting tweets about the random act. “We just wanted to make people’s day,” said Oradini.

Watch for the gorilla and the banana next semester — they’ve promised to make an appearance on “a very significant day on UD’s campus.”

  • UD’s Environmental Health and Safety Department conducted the annual fire pump testing at the CPC. This is to ensure the building’s water pump has the pressure it needs to get water to the sprinklers. Here, Darren Lyons of Simplex Grinnell, the assisting contractor, checks the readings on the pressure gauges as he observes the water flow during the test.
