The high-flying Flyer women ranked 34th in the nation in attendance last season, according to figures released yesterday by the NCAA. The Flyers averaged 3,404 fans per game at UD Arena, nearly quadrupling their average attendance from the year before. They led the entire A-10 in attendance in a season that saw NCAA women’s basketball draw more than 11 million fans nationwide for the third straight year.

Flyer fans got what they came for, too. UD got off to a fast start with wins over then No. 10 Miichigan State and 2008-09 NCAA runner-up Louisville, and won the Purdue PTI Classic.

It was a season that saw lots of firsts:

* First win over a top-10 team

* First top-25 ranking in both the AP and ESPN/USA Today Coaches Poll

* First NCAA appearance. In the tournament, the Flyers posted a dramatic 18-point comeback in the first round and fell to the University of Tennessee in Round Two

Go Flyers — out to the games.
