Roesch Library is a serene, quiet, calming place on campus for students to study in preparation for final exams. Quiet except for 10 minutes the Sunday night before finals week began.
At precisely midnight on Dec. 10, the Dayton to Daytona committee began blasting a dance mix from the darkened lobby of Roesch. Students taking a break from their studies donned glow stick necklaces and grooved to songs by artists like Ke$ha and Flo Rida; Mariah Carey’s version of “All I Want for Christmas Is You” was a huge hit.
A disco ball threw colored light while Daytona committee members passed out Red Bull to the dancers and stamped their Dayton to Daytona passports, which can help students receive a cheaper trip. This is the second annual Roesch rave before finals week but the first year the Daytona committee has been involved.
Senior Colleen Ambrose attended the dance party with three of her friends. “I think it definitely helped with the stress of finals week because everyone gets so cranky and tired while studying, so letting loose and showing off some dance moves is a good way to take a break,” she said. “I also went just because I think the idea of a dance party in the library is funny.”
